The academic department at Cedar Breaks Academy follows all academic guidelines set forth by the Utah State Office of Education. All curriculum is state-approved material being taught by Utah certified teachers. Each students class schedule is determined by a full academic assessment in combination with an incoming credit evaluation. We work diligently to ensure that the appropriate credits and courses are individualized for each students needs. We collaborate with schools nationwide to ensure accuracy of transcripts, and also help with the academic transition once the program is complete.

Some of the most common academic issues that our students have faced prior to coming to Cedar Breaks Academy is the inability to stay motivated in school and stay caught up in classes.  Students need to be in an environment that is challenging, yet safe, where they can ask questions and participate honestly in classroom discussion.  The most common reasons that we see for student placement at Cedar Breaks Academy are:

•  Drug and Alcohol use interfering with grades / attendance

•  Acting out

•  Lack of motivation

•  Anger management

•  Failing classes

•  Family issues

•  Suicidal ideation

All education staff and teachers have been thoroughly trained to not only teach, but to recognize warning signs of emotional distress that can cause academic failure.  In our schools Mission and Beliefs, it is clearly stated that we believe all students can learn.  It is our responsibility to create a strong learning environment, and to continually meet the individual needs of each student.

Through their academics, students acquire knowledge and master the academic skills that are essential for success in college or other higher education.  The faculty and curriculum are dedicated to developing the students' capacity for creative and independent thought through work and responsibility.

Cedar Breaks Academy recognizes the existence of many paths to learning.  Some students learn best by reading and memorizing; some, through actual experience; some, by pursuing a deep interest or vocation.

The personal growth and development program offers students the opportunity to acquire a strong sense of values, including responsibility, gratitude, respect, persistence, and serving others.  Students learn to communicate and cooperate, as well as to accept and appreciate others.  They begin to understand the value of building satisfying and meaningful relationships.  They also begin to realize how much this can enrich their own lives.

Cedar Breaks Academy respects young people for who they are as well as who they can become.  Close relationships among teachers, staff members, and students with varied backgrounds, interests, and aspirations lead to respect for individual and cultural differences and to an appreciation of achievement and excellence in its varied forms.

At Cedar Breaks Academy, we hold to a high level of academic excellence as all students are taught to a minimum mastery of 80% or better.  One on one tutoring, and daily study time is made available to ensure that each student is given the opportunity to learn the course curriculum.  Remedial courses, as well as gifted and talented are taught according to the ability level of the student.  We also encourage all eligible 11th and 12th grade students to look into college level courses, as we offer dual enrollment as an option for the student who needs  a college preparatory schedule.

Recreational and extracurricular activities combine with academic life to provide opportunities for personal growth.  Students learn to work with others, to assume leadership responsibilities, and to take constructive risks.

We have  accreditation through Northwest Association of Accredited Schools.  We have a certified special education teacher on staff to handle testing and teaching in the classroom.  We have a state of the art computer lab with new computers.  All students are taught out of Utah state-approved textbooks in a classroom setting.  Student to teacher ratio is approximately 1 to 8.
