I love kids and the insight they have in life.  This is why I have chosen the profession of a counselor. Thoughts:

I can honestly say that in all my years of working with youth that I have never met a youth I did not like, it was their behavior that I didn’t like.  Behaviors can be changed.  This is why I went into counseling.  To obtain my counseling degree, I had to drive a 600 mile round trip weekly and sometimes twice a week for three years.  This is the level of dedication I also give the youth I work with.  I love them.

I feel that Cedar Breaks Academy also has this level of dedication to the girls entrusted to our care.  Every time we interact with someone else, it was meant to be.  The girls who come to us at CBA, we were meant to help and this is what I love doing.  I believe strongly in the program at CBA. I am thankful to have an opportunity to work with your youth, I know they are precious to you and they are to me as well.

Destry Balch, LPC, NCC - Clinical Director

I grew up in Joseph, Utah and have lived in many places since.  I have experienced many activities in life, from a small town to the big city. I have found working with adolescents and there families to be most enjoyable.  The past eleven years I have surrounded myself with many opportunities to further develop my mental health practitioner skills.  Part of this includes a master’s degree in mental health counseling with an emphasis in adolescent drug and alcohol therapy.

I have formed my own private consulting business, Boulder Consulting, Inc., and have enjoyed seeing business grow.  As I do therapy with youth and there families I like to include alternative activities such as: canyoneering, repelling, ropes courses, hiking, backpacking, fishing, etc.  I find that these allow youth the opportunity to experience adventures and risks that are healthy and helpful as they find alternative ways to use their time. I continue to seek opportunities to learn and expand my knowledge through attending various conferences, reading the most current events, and putting into practice the many skills I have acquired.
